Komdigi condemns Steam's IGRS ratings as unofficial classifications

Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has stated that Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) ratings displayed on the Steam platform are not official government classifications. Direktur Pengembangan Ekosistem Digital Sonny Hendra Sudaryana said the ratings come from an internal self-declare mechanism without verification. This could lead to public misunderstandings about game age suitability.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) stated that IGRS ratings shown on several games on Steam use an internal self-declare mechanism and have not undergone official verification as required in Indonesia.

"Rating yang beredar tersebut bukan merupakan hasil klasifikasi resmi IGRS. Hal ini berpotensi menimbulkan kesalahpahaman publik, terutama terkait kelayakan usia suatu gim," said Direktur Pengembangan Ekosistem Digital Sonny Hendra Sudaryana in Jakarta on Sunday (April 5, 2026), as reported by Republika and ANTARA.

Komdigi emphasized the obligation of digital businesses to provide accurate, clear, and non-misleading information, as regulated by Law No. 1 of 2024 (ITE Revision), Minister of Communication Regulation No. 2 of 2024 on Game Classification, and Minister Regulation No. 5 of 2020 on Private Electronic System Operators.

The ministry will seek clarification from Steam and hold further discussions to ensure compliance. "Kami meminta platform untuk memastikan bahwa setiap informasi yang ditampilkan kepada publik akurat dan dapat dipertanggungjawabkan," Sonny stated. Administrative actions will follow if violations are found.

The public is advised to check official information via the IGRS website and Komdigi channels.
