LPG tanker reaches Mumbai after crossing Strait of Hormuz amid energy concerns

Two LPG tankers have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz amid Middle East conflict to reach India. BW TYR has arrived in Mumbai, while BW ELM heads to New Mangalore. They carry large shipments of propane and butane.

India's energy security received a boost amid ongoing Middle East tensions. The LPG carrier BW TYR crossed the perilous Strait of Hormuz and docked at Mumbai port. It carried 27 Indian sailors, all safe.

The tanker brought 23,653 metric tons of propane and 22,926 metric tons of butane for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). This supply will help meet domestic cooking gas and industrial fuel needs.

A second vessel, BW ELM, is en route to New Mangalore for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). Loaded with 23,860 metric tons of propane and 23,139 metric tons of butane, it has 28 Indian sailors aboard and is expected by 12 PM on April 1.

Conflict in Gulf countries and Iran raised fears of disrupted global gas supplies. The safe passage of these tankers is seen as a major maritime security success.
