Malmö FF secured its first Allsvenskan win of the season, beating Gais 3–1 in the home opener at Eleda Stadion. Pontus Jansson headed in the opener, Oscar Sjöstrand capitalized on a goalkeeper error for 2–0, and Otto Rosengren made it 3–0 before halftime. Gais pulled one back late via Shalom Ekong.
Malmö FF dominated the first half against Gais in the Allsvenskan home opener at Eleda Stadion before 19,433 spectators. Captain Pontus Jansson headed the 1–0 after 20 minutes from a Jens Stryger cross. “A good goal, an important goal at an important stage of the match,” Jansson said afterward.
New signing Oscar Sjöstrand made it 2–0 in the 37th minute after a blunder by Gais goalkeeper Kees Sims, who played the ball straight to him. “I was quite shocked that it landed on my foot,” Sjöstrand told SVT Sport. Otto Rosengren scored 3–0 before halftime.
Gais pressed in the second half, with Shalom Ekong pulling one back to 3–1 in the 87th minute. Coach Miguel Angel Ramirez called it MFF’s best match so far. “I also like the energy we feel from the crowd here at Stadion today; it helped us a lot,” he said.
Gais coach Fredrik “Fidde” Holmberg acknowledged the superiority: “When Malmö scores 3–0, the match is more or less dead.” The win gives MFF momentum ahead of the away game against Djurgården.
