ARD aired the final Munich 'Tatort' featuring Ivo Batic and Franz Leitmayr on Easter Monday. In their 100th case 'Unvergänglich', the detectives narrowly survive and become private investigators. Actors Miroslav Nemec and Udo Wachtveitl wanted a farewell without a dramatic death.
ARD broadcast the second part of the double episode 'Unvergänglich' on Easter Monday, the 100th case for the Munich 'Tatort' duo. Franz Leitmayr is injured after a showdown with a criminal and transported away but is saved by his successor Kalli Hammermann.
Colleague Ivo Batic had previously scolded Leitmayr: «Spinnst Du, willst Du Dich im letzten Fall erschießen lassen?» In the end, both stand under the Croatian sun and drive off together in a red Porsche into the sunset. The song «Only You» plays, as it did in their first case 'Animals' over three and a half decades ago.
The actors wished for a farewell where their characters survive. «Wir haben uns gewünscht, dass sie leben, also dass sie Freude am Leben haben», said Nemec. Wachtveitl added: «Es könnte natürlich auch eine Überlegung derart eine Rolle spielen, dass man uns wirklich totmacht.»
Bayerischer Rundfunk leaves the door open for a return: Batic and Leitmayr become private detectives in retirement and declare: «Unser erster Fall wartet schon.» They continue investigating after Kara asks Franz for help.
