Opposition criticises government over LPG price increases

Opposition leaders in India have criticised the BJP-led central government for recent increases in domestic LPG cylinder prices, citing a rise of Rs 89 over four months and questioning the handling of global factors.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge stated that the Modi government has allowed an increase of Rs 89 in LPG prices in the last four months. He questioned the government's claims on fuel diversification with 41 countries amid the West Asia war and noted a total rise of Rs 530 over 12 years. Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar said the ruling party would pay a political price for burdening citizens through phased hikes. He added that the increases started small but have steadily affected household budgets. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis defended the moves, stating no nation is immune to energy price rises due to the West Asia conflict. He noted that prices have gone down before when conditions change. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and the Trinamool Congress also criticised the government for passing burdens to ordinary families during global crises.
