Rio de Janeiro's city hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, will transfer R$ 15 million to Bonus Track for Shakira's show. The disclosure appeared in the Municipal Official Gazette on April 17.
The funding matches the amount spent on Lady Gaga's performance last year at the same beach but exceeds the R$ 10 million for Madonna's show two years ago. Both prior events were part of the 'Todo Mundo no Rio' project.
The stage for the Colombian singer is already under construction and will be larger than those for the previous artists. City officials anticipate around 2.5 million attendees, topping the earlier crowds.
