Record temperatures have been measured across Europe during the ongoing heatwave. The World Health Organization reports over 1,300 excess deaths since June 21.

Western and central Europe is experiencing its hottest and most humid heatwave on record this week, with temperatures that would have been virtually impossible without climate change. The event, running from 26 to 28 June, is expected to cause thousands of deaths.

The world's oceans experienced their hottest June on record last month, with nearly 40 percent of ocean areas in marine heatwaves. This warming has contributed to deadly heat on land across the United States and Europe.

After the late May episode, a new rise in temperatures is forecast for June 13 and 14. It will mainly affect the west and south of the country.

Saturday June 27 became the warmest day in a long time in southern Sweden. Several locations broke heat records as temperatures rose above 36 degrees.

An exceptionally early heatwave settles over France starting Friday, driven by a powerful anticyclone. Temperatures could reach 37 °C on Sunday in the Landes.

Scientists predict the current El Niño, which formed in June, will surpass all prior events in strength. Improved models and data support high confidence in record forecasts. This raises concerns for drought in southern Africa and global weather patterns.
