Alabama mother charged with murdering 2-year-old daughter

Sierra Hadaway, 22, faces a murder charge after authorities say she left her daughter bound and face down on a bed for more than 12 hours, resulting in death by asphyxiation.

The Chambers County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest on July 16. Investigators determined that the child's arms, legs and ankles were bound before she was placed face down on a bed.

Deputies and Lanett EMS responded to a home in the Cusseta area around 9 a.m. on June 12 after a report of a child not breathing. Madilynn Hadaway was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A second suspect, Christian Myles Sturkie, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on June 14. Officials have not disclosed whether he played any role in the death. The case remains under investigation by the sheriff's office, the district attorney's office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.

Hadaway is being held at the Chambers County Detention Facility without bond.
