An armed gang invaded Chemelil Sugar Academy on the morning of Thursday, June 18, injuring four people and stealing cash and mobile phones.
The attack took place as students returned from half-term break at Chemelil Sugar Academy in Muhoroni, Kisumu County.
More than 20 suspected goons entered the school armed with pangas, rungus and bows. They assaulted staff, broke into the principal’s and deputy principal’s offices and escaped into nearby sugarcane plantations toward the Achego area.
Police have launched investigations and a manhunt. The four injured victims suffered soft tissue injuries and cut wounds and are receiving treatment at Nyang’oma Sub-County Hospital.
The motive remains unknown, though the school has been involved in a dispute over the leasing of the Chemelil Sugar Factory.
