Audi Formula 1 chief Mattia Binotto has reiterated the brand's push for highly efficient power units in the next engine regulations.
Speaking to Motorsport.com, Binotto emphasized that efficiency must stay central to the 2031 power unit rules. He noted the technology supports lower fuel consumption and emissions while enabling transfer to road cars.
Audi is advocating to retain turbocharging in the new Formula. The brand uses the technology across its production vehicles, including a recent concept car that signals its vision.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has proposed advancing the rules to 2030. Discussions continue among manufacturers on simpler V8 engines with sustainable fuels and a reduced electric element.
Binotto said a solution should benefit the sport and its participants without being merely a compromise. The FIA may seek consensus before any unilateral decision.
