Gikaria summoned by IEBC committee over Ol Kalou bribery claims

Embakasi East MP David Gikaria was given until 7:30 to appear before the IEBC Ethics and Discipline Committee following allegations of bribery during campaigns for the Ol Kalou by-election.

The committee chaired by Dr Alutalala Mukhwana adjourned its session after Gikaria sent his assistant Joseph Kariuki Nelima in his place. Dr Mukhwana said the committee was not satisfied with the reasons given for the MP's absence.

Gikaria claimed he was ill and had a doctor's appointment. He also said he had not received any formal complaints and learned of the matter through social media.

The MP is accused of participating in voter bribery while campaigning for UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga in the Ol Kalou by-election.
