India has dispatched two aircraft with medical teams and relief supplies to Venezuela following powerful earthquakes that struck the country on June 24.
India launched Operation Amistad on June 26, sending two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft from Hindon Air Force Station. The planes carried a 41-member team including personnel from the Indian Army's 60 Para Field Hospital, along with over 35 tonnes of relief supplies, medicines, medical equipment and two BHISHM cubes.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that the assistance was to support post-earthquake relief efforts. The Ministry of External Affairs said India stands shoulder to shoulder with Venezuela and extended condolences to families who lost loved ones.
The 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes hit Venezuela on June 24 evening. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez reported a death toll of 589 with 2,980 injured according to one source, while another cited 920 deaths and 3,360 injured as of June 26.
