Indiana man charged with arson after severing genitals

An Indiana man faces felony arson charges after allegedly cutting off his own genitals and using them to start a fire in a family garage in Fort Wayne.

Christopher Michael Peden, 36, is accused of the act that occurred on May 6 at a detached garage owned by his family.

According to court documents, Peden initially claimed he had been stabbed in downtown Fort Wayne. He later confessed to investigators that he entered the garage around 2 a.m., severed his genitals with a kitchen knife, placed the flesh on the floor, poured gasoline on it, and set it ablaze.

Firefighters and police responded to the scene where they found a knife, gasoline container, and lighters. Peden's bond was set at $10,000 during a July 2 hearing. He posted a surety bond and was released on July 7.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 13 and Aug. 31.
