Government investigator Eva Broström rejects the proposal for mandatory language preschool for children lacking Swedish skills.
Eva Broström writes in a debate article in Dagens Nyheter that such a preschool would be both legally and practically difficult to introduce. She points to risks regarding equal treatment and discrimination.
Instead the inquiry proposes strengthened outreach efforts and a right to extended time in regular preschool. A language assessment from age three should grant access to special language support.
Broström also wants Skolverket to develop support materials on good quality in preschool. Criteria for staff density and group sizes should be regulated.
