Judge Pedraz summons Civil Guard Director General as investigated

Magistrate Santiago Pedraz has summoned Civil Guard Director General Mercedes González and Deputy Operational Director Manuel Llamas as investigated for July 16 on possible charges of prevarication and obstruction of justice.

The National Court judge's decision follows a request from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the Popular Party's popular accusation. The charges rest on evidence of a personal relationship between González and Leire Díez, as well as the opening of three internal files against UCO members.

Government sources said they maintain confidence in González and Llamas, who will continue in their roles and cooperate with justice. The Prosecutor's Office noted that Díez used that relationship to hinder investigations affecting the PSOE.

Among the cited facts are meetings in July 2024 where an attempt was made to stop the case against Pedro Sánchez's brother. Also mentioned is a dispatch note from April 29, 2025, warning of Díez's maneuvers that was not immediately delivered to the UCO.
