Matthew Lillard returns as Shaggy for new Scooby-Doo anime

Spill it: Matthew Lillard is back in the Shaggy sweater for a wild new Scooby-Doo anime. Tubi just announced the first-ever anime take on the franchise, sending the gang straight to Japan for monster mayhem.

The tea is piping hot from the 19 May announcement. Matthew Lillard, who first brought Shaggy to life in the 2002 live-action film, will reprise the role alongside Frank Welker as Scooby. Warner Bros. Animation and Japan's OLM Studios are teaming up, with Itsuro Kawasaki directing the series titled Yokoso Scooby-Doo! The plot drops Scooby and Shaggy into an ultimate foodie adventure that accidentally unleashes hundreds of mythical monsters across the country. New friends include magical girl Yume, gadget whiz Takumi, and Scooby’s uncle Daisuke-Doo. The show heads to Tubi in the US and Cartoon Network worldwide, promising fresh hijinks and plenty of Scooby Snacks in anime form. Sam Register and Tubi’s Adam Lewinson both hailed the project as a bold reinvention for new generations. Fans are also buzzing about the separate Netflix live-action origins series, which began filming last month with Mckenna Grace as Daphne and a fresh cast for the rest of Mystery Inc. Matthew had been calling for a new animated series as recently as March, calling it a perfect intro to storytelling for kids. So… is this the ultimate Scooby comeback or just the start of more mysteries to unmask?
