Ohio man charged with murdering his infant daughter

A 30-year-old man in Clermont County, Ohio, faces murder and other charges in the death of his 4-month-old daughter last December. Authorities allege Marcellaus Nekie Malone suffocated the infant through tight swaddling after months of abuse. He is held on $1 million bond ahead of a court appearance next week.

Marcellaus Nekie Malone was indicted last week on one count each of murder, involuntary manslaughter, and domestic violence, plus seven counts of endangering children, related to his daughter's death on December 11, 2025. Milford Township police responded to his apartment that day after reports of an unresponsive infant. Emergency personnel tried to revive her but she was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to the indictment obtained by Law&Crime. Prosecutors announced the charges this week, noting an escalating pattern of abuse dating back at least two months. Surveillance footage showed Malone threatening the baby, saying she was 'going to be a dead baby' and that he would toss her if she angered him. As punishment for crying, he tightly swaddled her—including her head—cutting off her breathing until she passed out, and once punched her in the face, causing a bruise. On the night of her death, the infant was fussy. Her mother swaddled her properly, but Malone took her to a bassinet in another room and was the last person to see her alive. The autopsy found no other cause of death but noted as contributory a 'reported history of occlusion of the nose and mouth by swaddling of the body and head.' Clermont County Prosecutor Mark Tekulve called the allegations 'unthinkable,' stating, 'Children are our most precious gifts. It is unthinkable that this innocent child could have been treated in such a callous and evil manner.' Malone remains in Clermont County Jail on $1 million bond, with his next hearing set for April 27. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
