A 23-year-old woman faces multiple charges after a March crash in Pittsburgh that killed two people. Authorities say she was driving under the influence and speeding when she hit another vehicle.
Madison Elizabeth Rau was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, and involuntary manslaughter.
The crash occurred March 1 when Rau allegedly drove out of the Liberty Tunnel at 90 mph and struck vehicles on the Liberty Bridge. Her blood alcohol concentration was recorded at 0.14 percent, according to court records.
The victims, 28-year-old Jaren Wilkerson and 25-year-old Laila Jones, were trapped in their vehicle after the collision. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, while Wilkerson died later at a hospital.
Rau is scheduled to appear in court July 24 for a preliminary hearing. No one in the other vehicles was seriously injured.
