São Paulo hit its highest traffic congestion of the year on Friday. The traffic authority recorded 1,348 km of slow traffic at 6 p.m.
Light rain in the late afternoon and early evening contributed to the gridlock. According to CET, the figure surpassed the previous yearly record of 1,313 km set on February 26.
By 7 p.m. the total had eased to 1,190 km. Marginal Pinheiros held the longest stretch at 22.4 km, ahead of the central and express lanes of Marginal Tietê.
The south zone accounted for 377 km of affected roads. Congestion was already heavy by 4:30 p.m., when the city registered 969 km, 41% above the same time last Friday.
