Stellantis to build new Opel electric SUV in Zaragoza and transfer Madrid plant to Leapmotor

Stellantis and Leapmotor announced today an expansion of their strategic alliance, including production of a new Opel electric model at the Figueruelas plant in Zaragoza starting in 2028.

Automotive group Stellantis confirmed its plans for the Spanish factories on Friday. In Figueruelas it will produce the Opel C-SUV with electric battery on a new line, which will join the Leapmotor B10 model scheduled for 2026 and the current Peugeot 208 and Lancia Ypsilon.

At the same time, the Villaverde plant in Madrid, which currently makes the Citroën C4, will receive a new Leapmotor vehicle starting in the first half of 2028. Stellantis is studying the transfer of ownership of this facility to the Spanish subsidiary of its joint venture with Leapmotor.

Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis, said the plan “is a true benefit for both”. Zhu Jiangming, founder and CEO of Leapmotor, stressed that his company's technologies combined with Stellantis's global reach make the partnership “unique and powerful”.
