YouTuber WhistlinDiesel has completed a three-part series comparing the durability of a Tesla Cybertruck with a Ford F-150. The tests, which cost more than $300,000, showed the F-150 requiring fewer repairs overall.
Cody Detwiler, who runs the WhistlinDiesel channel, subjected both vehicles to identical challenges. The Cybertruck required six or seven visits to Tesla service centers, while the F-150 needed only a driveshaft replacement.
In the Moab, Utah segment, the Cybertruck's towing module detached after about a mile on the trail. Detwiler reported that the frame also snapped during testing and that both trucks suffered wiring failures.
The Cybertruck performed well in one area. Its Full Self-Driving feature successfully navigated to a steakhouse and parked without driver input. Detwiler described the truck as feeling like a beefy Model 3 and noted that its body construction and speed exceeded those of the F-150.
Both vehicles were destroyed in a final remote-controlled crash on a private drag strip. Detwiler criticized the Cybertruck's hitch and said no automaker had contacted him about the videos.
