Former England footballer John Barnes performed his rap from New Order's 'World In Motion' with bassist Peter Hook at a Manchester concert on June 4.
The appearance came during Hook's performance at the Manchester Academy. The show marked the 50th anniversary of the Sex Pistols' 1976 gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall. Hook played a 35-track set spanning his career with Joy Division and New Order. Barnes joined midway through the 1990 World Cup anthem, which remains New Order's only UK number one single. Hook later described the event on Instagram as a 'truly memorable show' and thanked guests including Rowetta and Buzzcocks. Barnes had shared audio clips earlier in the week of Paul Gascoigne and Peter Beardsley attempting the rap.
