On April 30, 2026, the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) issued a public notice directing thousands of youth who completed On-the-Job Experience (OJE) training to revise their skill choices. The directive affects beneficiaries in 13 counties, including Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Hombay, Kisii, Nyamira, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Kisumu, Migori, Siaya and Vihiga.
"Lot 1 and Lot 2 beneficiaries who have undertaken SESD training, here is your opportunity to revise your skill selection," the notice stated. Beneficiaries should dial *254#, select the OJE program for revision, and wait for further instructions via SMS from an official number.
The trainees recently finished the six-month OJE program, receiving a Ksh 6,000 monthly stipend each. The initiative targets over 90,000 youths aged 18 to 29 nationwide, providing apprenticeship-based learning, certification, practical skills and mentoring to boost employability.
NYOTA states that skill reselection improves employability, workplace productivity, reduces labour market mismatches, and supports sustainable career growth. OJE forms part of the government's Ksh 33 billion plan to assist over 800,000 vulnerable youths with skills, mentorship and start-up capital over the next five years.
