Professional Go players analyze Kisei match for Hawaii students

In Honolulu, professional Go players provided analysis and lessons on the 50th Kisei title series to students from Punahou School. Including ninth-dan Michael Redmond, the players explained the match proceedings, answered questions, and conducted sessions using actual Go boards and stones.

At the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort hotel in Honolulu, professional Go players taught about 25 students from Punahou School on Thursday, coinciding with the kickoff of the 50th Kisei title series, the most prestigious in Go. The school includes Go in its curriculum.

Players, including ninth-dan Michael Redmond, explained the ongoing title match, fielded students' questions, and then delivered hands-on lessons using real Go boards and stones. The atmosphere was light and cheerful.

A 17-year-old student, experiencing professional instruction for the first time, said the advice she received was very helpful. A 15-year-old student remarked that he really enjoys playing Go.

This event, timed with the series opener, offered students a chance to engage with the world's top Go competition.
