20-year-old recovers after horse kick nearly killed her

Eight months ago a horse kick shattered Agnes Johansson's face in Karlskoga. She hovered between life and death but is now fighting to return to daily life among the horses.

The accident occurred during an evening walk with the horses in November. Agnes Johansson lost several liters of blood and needed emergency care in Karlskoga before transfer to the hospital in Örebro. Doctors rebuilt parts of her face with titanium and she lost vision in her left eye.

Eight months later she is still recovering. She has undergone multiple operations and says it has become harder to handle mentally now that her physical condition has improved. The first time she saw herself in the mirror she did not recognize her own face.

Despite the injuries her love for horses remains. Six months after the accident she sat on a horse again but cannot ride fully due to the risk of new damage. She stresses the importance of safety and hopes her story will influence stables across the country.

Her goal is to return to the stable full time and compete with her horses again. Nursing studies have been paused but she wants to start living her ordinary life.
