Alexi Cory-Smith dies at 58 after founding Bella Figura Music

Alexi Cory-Smith, co-founder and CEO of London-based catalog firm Bella Figura Music, has died at age 58. The company announced her sudden passing on July 3.

Bella Figura Music released a statement expressing devastation over the loss of its leader. The firm highlighted her vision in building the company from the ground up after a career at major labels including BMG, where she served as president of repertoire and marketing until 2017.

Cory-Smith launched Bella Figura in 2022 with longtime colleague Neelesh Prabhu. The firm manages rights to hits such as Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and The Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me.” As of 2025 the portfolio exceeded $160 million in value, and it acquired Paul Epworth’s catalog in April 2026.

BPI CEO Jo Twist said the organization was profoundly saddened and extended condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. The company asked for privacy for Cory-Smith’s loved ones while committing to honor her achievements.
