Amy Shark announces solo album Soft Pop for July release

Australian singer-songwriter Amy Shark has revealed her fourth studio album, Soft Pop, slated for release on July 31. The announcement coincides with the debut of its lead single, "The Biggest Dick." This project marks a departure from her collaborative style, as she wrote and produced it entirely on her own.

Amy Shark, who rose to prominence in 2016 with her hit single "Adore," is preparing to release her fourth studio album, Soft Pop, on July 31. The album follows her previous works, including the EP Night Thinker in 2017, Cry Forever in 2021, and Sunday Sadness in 2024.

For Soft Pop, Shark adopted a solo approach, writing and producing the material in isolation at her apartment. In an interview with Marie Claire, she described the process: "This album feels a lot bigger than the rest, just because I did it so differently." She explained that, unlike her earlier albums where she composed across multiple studios, this time she worked alone, which proved challenging initially. "It was torture at the start," she admitted with a laugh.

Over time, Shark found her creative flow and selected songs from a pool of 15, taking 11 to the recording studio. She imposed strict rules on herself, steering clear of conventional beats and sounds from her past projects. This included changing the tuning of her guitar and microphone to create a distinctive sound.

The lead single, "The Biggest Dick," has been teased on social media in recent weeks, generating early interest. Beyond music, Shark is set to appear in her feature film debut this April in Beast, alongside Russell Crowe. The film centers on a retired MMA fighter returning to the sport for revenge on behalf of his brother.

Fans anticipate that Soft Pop will offer an intimate look at Shark's artistic growth through this self-reliant endeavor.
