Analyst predicts Witcher 3 DLC as prologue to Witcher 4

A Polish analyst has forecasted that CD Projekt will release new paid DLC for The Witcher 3 in May 2026, serving as a bridge to the upcoming The Witcher 4. This expansion is expected to connect the plots of the two games, with marketing for the sequel starting simultaneously. The prediction comes amid updates on CD Projekt's broader development slate.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, released in 2015 and having sold 60 million copies worldwide, may receive fresh content despite its age. According to Mateusz Chrzanowski of analyst group Noble Securities, a 'paid add-on' for the game is slated for May 2026. This DLC is anticipated to act as a prologue to The Witcher 4, linking the storylines and introducing elements for the new trilogy where Ciri serves as the lead protagonist.

CD Projekt has not officially confirmed the DLC, but Chrzanowski's report suggests it will be less substantial than previous expansions like Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The marketing campaign for The Witcher 4 is expected to launch alongside this add-on. For The Witcher 4 itself, the analyst predicts a release in the fourth quarter of 2027, between October and December, aligning with CD Projekt's statement that it will not arrive in 2026.

Broader insights from the analysis include a smaller-scale title planned for 2026, possibly a mobile game or a new version of Gwent, though its connection to existing franchises remains unclear. External studio Fool’s Theory has reportedly shifted from remaking The Witcher 1 to assisting with The Witcher 4, delaying the remake to 2028.

Other projects mentioned are Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer mode, codenamed Orion, set for Q4 2030, and a Witcher multiplayer spin-off, Sirus, pushed back to 2028. A new sci-fi IP, Hadar, remains in pre-concept and is not expected before 2032.

These forecasts, focused on investment implications, highlight CD Projekt's busy pipeline, potentially reviving interest in older titles through DLC to bridge to sequels.
