Two Bengaluru Traffic Police personnel were caught on camera accepting bribes in separate incidents on Saturday. One head constable was suspended following a preliminary inquiry. The events have prompted public criticism over enforcement practices.
A traffic head constable identified as Somashekhar from the Pulakeshinagar Traffic Police Station was suspended after accepting a ₹5,000 bribe from truck driver Syed Afroz. According to the suspension order issued by Bengaluru East Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police Sahil Bagla, Somashekhar demanded the payment during a vehicle inspection and threatened court proceedings otherwise. The driver recorded the transaction on his mobile phone and submitted the video to senior officials.
In a separate incident, a traffic assistant sub-inspector attached to the Peenya Traffic Police Station was recorded accepting ₹200 from a motorist at 8th Mile. Residents captured the exchange, in which the motorist stated, “I paid ₹200 and they let me go.” The video later appeared on social media.
Both personnel allegedly did not use mandatory body worn cameras during the stops. The incidents occurred on Saturday and raised concerns about compliance with traffic enforcement protocols.
