Borlänge’s municipal group has reused materials from renovations and demolitions, saving ten million kronor over the past two years.
Materials such as doors, appliances and other building components are collected at special reuse hubs. From there they are moved to schools, offices and care facilities within the municipality.
Jessica Burman, project manager at municipal properties, says the work saves on climate impact, costs and transport. She views it as the start of something larger.
Johan Croneryd, acting head of construction and management, stresses that collaboration across the entire municipal group is unique. Several other municipalities have contacted them to learn from the model.
