The explosion occurred around 19:30 WIB at Masjid Raya Pesona in Pesona Raya Regency housing complex, Patrang subdistrict, Jember Regency, East Java, during tarawih prayers on March 16, 2026. The loud blast was heard in neighboring villages, damaging the mosque's ceiling, rooster, and an unused cupboard near the men's ablution area. One worshipper was taken to the emergency unit at RSUD dr Soebandi Jember for suspected hearing loss from the blast, with no other fatalities. Worshippers and residents panicked and fled the mosque and housing area. Mosque activities were halted temporarily due to fears of follow-up explosions, with police lines set around the site. On March 17, 2026, East Java Police Chief Irjen Nanang Avianto and Jember Police Chief AKBP Bobby A. Condroputra monitored the crime scene processing by Jibom Gegana and Labfor teams from Polda Jatim, under tight security by Brimob Polda Jatim. Mosque Takmir Chairman Muhammad Fadil was present to assist. Jember Police Reskrim Chief AKP Angga Riatma said, “Olah TKP masih berlangsung dan untuk detailnya nanti pihak Polda Jatim yang menyampaikan.” He added that the team had not yet determined the cause, suspected from an unused cupboard with an iron board nearby.
