British Showjumping expands opportunities for Para Showjumping

British Showjumping has introduced a revised competition structure this year to promote Para Showjumping in the UK. The changes follow concerns from riders about declining opportunities since the pandemic. New formats aim to increase participation and flexibility for competitors.

British Showjumping reported a significant boost to Para Showjumping through a dedicated calendar of five multi-day competitions. These events culminate in the National Championships at Stoneleigh and a season finale at Arena UK in September.

Open sections have been added to existing graded classes. This setup allows riders to compete within their grades for league points while also entering open sections at different heights.

A two-day camp took place last month at the National Training Centre in Leicestershire. Coach Sarah Tubbs said the sessions offered social opportunities alongside training and workshops.

Riders including Claire Pope and Anna Hilton welcomed the developments but noted ongoing challenges. They highlighted reduced shows since the pandemic and called for better communication and more venues to host Para classes.
