The Cardinals announced that Winn, who was alone in the vehicle, received medical attention at a nearby hospital. The team attributed the crash to wet pavement on Interstate 40.
The Cardinals issued a statement late Wednesday confirming Winn's condition. 'Masyn, who was alone in the vehicle, was attended to by local police and Cardinals security and medical staff,' the team said. 'He was examined at a nearby hospital and suffered no serious injuries. We are grateful that he is OK, and thank the first responders in our community who helped Masyn tonight.' Officials noted no other vehicles were involved in the incident on Interstate 40 due to slippery conditions from rain-soaked roads. The accident occurred after Winn delivered the walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning, securing a 2-1 win against the Mets. The 24-year-old shortstop has started the season batting 4 for 25 with a .160 average. Over the previous two years, he posted a .261/.312/.391 line, earned a Gold Glove at shortstop in 2025, and contributed about 3.5 WAR each season in 2024 and 2025. The Cardinals, who sit at 4-2 early in their rebuild, have Thursday off before opening a series against the Detroit Tigers on Friday. It remains unclear if Winn will miss any games. Should he sit out, utility infielder Thomas Saggese would likely fill in at shortstop.
