Satellite images reveal China constructing a new finless submarine at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai to boost its hunt-and-kill capabilities.
According to a report by France-based Naval News on June 4, Vantor satellite images dated June 1 show the vessel under construction at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai. The design omits the traditional fin used for observation and communications, with analysts saying it could enhance stealth, manoeuvrability and speed. Retired PLA colonel Yue Gang said Beijing is “seeking the limits of underwater performance”. This marks the second new type of Chinese submarine identified via satellite images this year.
