China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Friday that China opposes new U.S. tariffs imposed on dozens of trading partners including China.
The new U.S. tariffs took effect July 24, setting a 12.5% rate on goods from China.
Lin Jian said tariff wars serve no one’s interests and reiterated China’s consistent position on China-U.S. economic and trade issues.
The prior 150-day temporary 10% tariff on most global imports under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 expired on Friday. Washington is now preparing to invoke Section 301 to impose new tariffs on 60 countries and regions under the pretext of forced labor.
