Wang Huning, China's top political adviser, will make an official goodwill visit to North Korea from July 15 to 17, North Korean state media reported on July 14.

Wang Huning is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He will lead a party and government delegation at the invitation of the North Korean government and the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The visit forms part of high-level exchanges marking the 65th anniversary of the 1961 Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. It follows North Korean Premier Pak Thae-song's trip to Beijing last week.

Wang's trip comes after Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Pyongyang last month for a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
