Churchill Downs opens eighth historical racing facility in Kentucky

Churchill Downs Inc. has launched its eighth historical horse racing venue in the state, located in southwestern Kentucky. The new facility, Marshall Yards Racing & Gaming, opened to the public on Wednesday in Calvert City.

Churchill Downs Inc., based in Louisville, Kentucky, marked a milestone with the opening of Marshall Yards Racing & Gaming, its eighth historical horse racing entertainment venue in the state. The 23,000-square-foot facility in Calvert City includes 225 historical racing machines, a retail sportsbook, simulcast wagering options, and various food and beverage services.

This new venue aims to bolster the local racing scene by supporting purse funding for the meet at Oak Grove Racing, another CDI-owned property. Oak Grove Racing is a harness-racing track situated about an hour from Calvert City.

Bill Carstanjen, CEO of CDI, commented on the expansion: “We are setting a new pace for growth as we expand CDI's footprint in southwestern Kentucky.” He added that “Marshall Yards reflects our vision to build destination experiences that generate local economic opportunities, inspire regional tourism and secure our place at the forefront of racing and entertainment.”

The opening underscores CDI's strategy to enhance its presence in the region, combining gaming and racing elements to attract visitors and support equine activities.
