Craig Tiley started as chief executive of the United States Tennis Association on July 20 after 21 years at Tennis Australia. He outlined plans to expand participation in the sport across the country.
Tiley, 65, took over the position the day before the announcement. He previously led Tennis Australia and directed the Australian Open, where he helped increase attendance from about 550,000 in 2007 to more than 1.4 million.
In his first comments as USTA CEO, Tiley said the organization already offers a strong base for growth. He added that he wants to collaborate with the entire tennis community to push participation higher than previously imagined.
Tiley was recruited by interim co-CEO Brian Vahaly. He had announced his departure from Tennis Australia in February 2026 and helped select his successor there.
During his time in Australia, Tiley introduced the One Point Slam exhibition event at Melbourne Park. However, Australian players have seen limited success in recent years, with no Grand Slam titles since Ashleigh Barty in 2022.
