CLEVELAND -- Lefty Riley Martin, 28, was present with the Cubs at Progressive Field on Saturday for an expected call-up to the Major League bullpen. According to a source, the move was planned to bolster the relief corps following right-hander Cade Horton's early exit from Friday's 4-1 loss to the Guardians due to right forearm discomfort. Cubs manager Craig Counsell indicated Horton is likely headed to the 15-day injured list, though he did not speak to reporters Saturday because of the postponement. The Cubs have not confirmed Martin's promotion. The rainout, caused by inclement weather in northeast Ohio, will be made up as a doubleheader Sunday starting at 12:10 p.m. CT (1:10 p.m. ET), with gates opening at noon ET. Both teams can add a 27th man from their 40-man rosters for the twin bill. Saturday ticketholders can exchange for one of 51 designated games, including Sunday's games. For the Guardians, Slade Cecconi will start the first game, followed by Parker Messick in the second. The Cubs adjusted their rotation: Edward Cabrera for game one and Shota Imanaga for game two. Veteran Colin Rea is a candidate to fill Horton's rotation spot, potentially allowing Martin to provide multi-inning relief. Martin, the Cubs' No. 28 prospect per MLB Pipeline, features a mid-90s fastball and mid-80s power breaking ball. In six Minor League seasons, he owns a 3.76 ERA over 174 appearances, including a strong 2025 at Triple-A Iowa (6-2, 2.69 ERA in 47 games). This season, he has one start: three innings, three hits, one run, three strikeouts.
