Design student presents emergency vehicle for rough terrain

A student at the Umeå Institute of Design has created a sketch for a smaller emergency vehicle designed to handle difficult terrain better than standard ambulances.

Josephine Samuelsson Wahl from Göteborg presented her degree project during an exhibition of graduation works this week. The vehicle is half the size of an ambulance and is meant to drive between rocks and trees without getting stuck. The idea stems from conversations with ambulance staff and mountain rescuers. Samuelsson Wahl also collaborated with Land Rover and spoke with researchers and rescue services to map the needs. All required technology already exists today according to the student. It remains unclear however whether the vehicle will be manufactured in the future.
