The operator of discount chain Don Quijote opened its first food-focused Robin Hood store near Nagoya on Friday to aid households facing rising living costs. Pan Pacific International Holdings Corp says the outlet offers affordable prepared foods and easy-to-cook items. The company describes the model as "like a supermarket, but not a supermarket."

Pan Pacific International Holdings Corp, operator of the Don Quijote discount chain, opened the first Robin Hood store in Ama near Nagoya on Friday. The move aims to support households struggling with the cost of living amid inflation.

The store spans about 2,300 square meters, with 40 percent allocated to cosmetics, daily necessities, and general merchandise—items synonymous with the Don Quijote brand. The rest focuses on affordable prepared foods and easy-to-cook products.

At the opening ceremony, Mikihira Katagiri, the company's executive managing officer, said: "This is by no means a finished product. We want to bring a new shopping experience to the daily lives of everyone in the community."

Pan Pacific plans to grow the Robin Hood brand to 300 stores by the end of June 2035, including sites in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Don Quijote is renowned for its inexpensive products popular among locals and tourists.
