Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, held high-level talks with Tanzanian officials to launch joint strategic projects in the transport and industrial sectors, highlighting the growing partnership between the two nations. The discussions occurred within the framework of longstanding brotherly relations between Egypt and Tanzania, aligned with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's directives to bolster cooperation with African countries.
In talks with Tanzanian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo and Minister of Information, Culture and Sports Professor Yalamma Gamba John Kabudi, Kamel Al-Wazir reaffirmed Egypt's dedication to broadening cooperation with Tanzania in industry and transport. He noted that bilateral ties are grounded in strong historical and political connections between President Al-Sisi and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, with the proposed collaboration focused on integration over competition.
Central proposals included building a cargo terminal at Dar es Salaam Port using Egyptian firms and global shipping lines to boost trade. Discussions also addressed creating an integrated livestock breeding complex, a modern slaughterhouse, and a leather tanning factory, plus specialized units to enhance production management and marketing. These efforts seek to ramp up exports of Egyptian raw materials and goods to Tanzania while easing imports of Tanzanian products via key ports like Sokhna, Safaga, and Dar es Salaam.
The sides further considered mutual logistics zones—one for Egypt in Tanzania and vice versa—drawing from Egypt's model with Rwanda. Such zones are anticipated to foster joint investments, economic integration, and youth employment in both countries.
Kombo praised Egypt's contributions to bilateral ties and stated the talks clear a path for project rollout, promising substantial economic benefits and jobs. He invited Al-Wazir to Tanzania for follow-up meetings with agriculture, transport, industry, and investment ministers to kick off the initiatives formally. Kabudi welcomed the meeting's results, underscoring robust Egyptian-Tanzanian relations and Tanzania's eagerness to advance with closer coordination ahead.
