Egypt explores renewable energy ties with China Energy and EPPEI

Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy held talks with executives from China Energy and EPPEI to expand cooperation on renewable energy projects and grid improvements.

Minister Mahmoud Esmat met with China Energy Chairperson Ni Zhen and EPPEI President Hu Ming at the ministry headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The discussions covered renewable energy integration, power grid modernisation, energy storage systems, and long-term sector planning. Esmat outlined Egypt's target to reach 45 percent renewable energy in electricity generation by 2028. He stressed the need for advanced technology to support this goal, including better grid flexibility and expanded storage capacity. The talks also addressed localisation of industries, technology transfer, and training programmes. Officials reviewed EPPEI's experience in China's power sector reforms and clean energy projects. Esmat noted that Chinese companies are already contributing to Egypt's solar and wind projects. Plans include energy storage projects with a combined capacity of 14,320 MWh by 2028.
