Expert picks Yordan Alvarez and Shohei Ohtani for 2026 MLB awards

With every team past the halfway point of the 2026 Major League Baseball season, an expert has released midseason picks for major awards including MVP, Cy Young and rookie honors.

Yordan Alvarez of the Astros was selected as the American League MVP. He leads the AL in on-base percentage, slugging percentage and total bases while tying for the home run lead.

Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers earned the National League MVP nod. Ohtani leads the league in on-base percentage and holds an 8-2 record with a 1.58 ERA in 79 ⅔ innings pitched.

Cam Schlittler of the Yankees was named AL Cy Young after posting a 2.08 ERA. Jacob Misiorowski of the Brewers took the NL Cy Young with a 1.45 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 146 strikeouts in 99 innings.

Kevin McGonigle of the Tigers was picked for AL Rookie of the Year while JJ Wetherholt of the Cardinals earned the NL honor. Will Venable of the White Sox and Don Mattingly of the Phillies were selected as managers of the year in their leagues.
