Building on prior singles like 'Your Favorite Toy,' 'Asking for a Friend,' and others, Foo Fighters dropped aggressive rock track 'Of All People' on Thursday. Grohl sings of life's unfairness: “Of all people, you survived/ When no one else could stay alive,” and “You know you should be dead/ But you’re alive instead.”
Last month, Grohl shared with The Guardian that the song stemmed from encountering his former heroin dealer after 30 years: 'alive, healthy and sober.' He felt anger over lost friends and gratitude, even processing it as 'survivor’s guilt' in therapy.
Your Favorite Toy was recorded at home with co-producer Oliver Roman—the band's first sessions with new drummer Ilan Rubin—after Grohl described the title track as 'the key that unlocked the tone' and 'the fuse to the powder keg.'
The album precedes festival dates like Welcome to Rockville (Daytona Beach, May 8) and Bottlerock Napa Valley (May 23), a European tour, and North American shows including Toronto’s Rogers Stadium (August 4) through late September. Queens of the Stone Age and Mannequin Pussy support most dates.
