An indie game creator used photos of his sleeping wife to design a boss monster in his upcoming turn-based RPG. The developer, known as JOJOJOJOsoft, described the process as part of an ongoing playful rivalry with his spouse.
JOJOJOJOsoft created the multi-faced creature for Billy the Hero by taking reference photos of his wife during deep sleep. He then combined the images through photo-bashing, added grayscale textures from raw meat, and painted in details like veins and blood.
The developer confirmed that his wife knew about the project and participated in the mutual teasing. He noted that she often posts unflattering photos of him online as part of their long-running dynamic.
Billy the Hero follows the story of a teddy bear criminal trapped on Hell Island. The game features a combat system centered on math and greed, with additional monsters inspired by everyday objects such as a half-eaten chicken carcass.
JOJOJOJOsoft, a former movie matte painter, said he prefers starting designs with pencil sketches rather than generative AI tools.
