The Alternative for Germany (AfD) founded the youth organization Generation Deutschland (GD) in November 2025 as the successor to the Junge Alternative (JA), which dissolved in spring 2025. The JA had been classified as proven right-wing extremist by the Verfassungsschutz, leading the AfD to distance itself, as the loose connection as an independent association harmed the party's image.
In response to a minor inquiry from Green Bundestag member Marlene Schönberger, the Interior Ministry states that the federal board of the GD shows high personnel continuity to the JA. The majority of officials were already members or functionaries in the predecessor organization. Additionally, connections of GD members to other extremist groups are known.
At the founding assembly on November 29, 2025, in Gießen, board members stated that the GD would not moderate but adhere to previous contents. The ministry views this as evidence of efforts against the free democratic basic order. Application speeches revealed statements on an ethnic-ancestral understanding of the state people, suggesting discrimination against German citizens with migration backgrounds.
