Japan to provide emergency relief goods to quake-hit Venezuela

Japan will send emergency relief goods including water purifiers and jerry cans to Venezuela following twin earthquakes that killed over 1,700 people.

Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi announced the aid on Tuesday. The goods, which also include tarpaulins, will be delivered through the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

A JICA survey team has been on the ground since Friday to assess needs and will remain for up to two weeks. Motegi stated that Japan is prepared to consider additional help such as a disaster relief team or emergency grant aid based on conditions.

The United Nations reported more than 5,000 injured and around 12,000 displaced as of Monday.
