Jasmine Paolini withdraws from Washington and Toronto due to injury

Jasmine Paolini has pulled out of the Mubadala DC Open and the National Bank Open in Toronto because of a lingering foot injury. The Italian announced the decision on her Instagram story, saying she needs extra time to rest the foot that first flared up at the Rome Masters in May.

Paolini made a strong run to the Wimbledon quarterfinals on grass but has now delayed her hard-court season. The 30-year-old wrote that she wants to retain full fitness and wished the tournaments well.

The withdrawals will not cost her ranking points. She did not play the DC Open last year and lost in the first round of the Canadian Open.

Paolini is targeting a return at the Cincinnati Masters, where she reached the final last year. The foot injury already forced her out of doubles events at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
