Victoria Mboko withdraws from Wimbledon with knee injury

Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko has pulled out of Wimbledon after sustaining a left knee injury during her match at the Queen’s Club.

The 19-year-old retired from her singles match against Karolina Pliskova while trailing 2-6, 4-3. She twisted her knee on a forehand return and told a physiotherapist there was “no stability right now.”

Mboko also withdrew from the doubles event where she had partnered with Serena Williams. Darja Vidmanova has taken her place in the Wimbledon main draw.

Williams posted a message wishing Mboko a speedy recovery after their first-round win at the HSBC Championships. The injury marks Mboko’s first retirement on the WTA tour.
